How do I run MiniEdit in Ubuntu

The Mininet network simulator includes MiniEdit, a simple GUI (Graphical user interface) editor for Mininet .MiniEdit is an experimental tool and it is created to demonstrate how Mininet can be extended.

Tools in MiniEdit

MiniEdit  has a simple user interface that presents a canvas with a row of tool icons on   the left side of the window , and a menu bar along the top of the window .The list of tools available in the MiniEdit for create the software defined networking based network simulation ,

  • Select

This tool is used to move nodes around on the canvas and then click and drag any existing node.

  • Host

This tool is deployed for create nodes on the canvas that will perform the function of host computers.

  • OpenFlow enabled switch

This tool operates as the same way as the hosts tool above. These switches are expected to be connected to a controller.

  • Legacy Switch

It creates a learning Ethernet switch with default settings.

  • Legacy Router

It creates a basic router that will operate independently, without a controller.

  • NetLink

It creates a link between nodes on the canvas.

  • Controller

It creates a controller. Multiple controllers can be added.

  • Run

The run starts Mininet simulation scenario currently displayed in the MiniEdit canvas.

  • Stop

The stop button stops the Mininet simulation.

Create simulation using MiniEdit in Ubuntu

Following  that ,create and store the simulation network configuration file with 50 host nodes ,10 -switch nodes and 1- controller node with file extension .mn in the Mininet installed location ,

Create simulation using MiniEdit

Run MiniEdit in ubuntu

After storing the simulation network, to run the simulation in Mininet on Ubuntu execute the following command lines ,

cd /home/research/mininet/MiniEdit_project

sudo ./miniedit.py

Select the network configuration file which is already created,

The result of run MiniEdit in Ubuntu based on GUI (Graphical user interface) is depicted below.
