How Does SDN Support Edge Computing

SDN support edge computing

The Edge computing is one of the networking concept , which is used to pushing data processing to the edge of the network. During the data processing we can use the network links and bandwidth, for edge versus cloud. During this process , the SDN and edge computing  are integrated for perform the data processing.

The MEC coordinator exploit the SDN process  for the service discovery , which is used to track the instances of a service and perform the service instantiation and management, it  needs of MEC services. Next we can  gather information from the network by using the MEC coordinators, which can be integrated with the SDN controller. And also set the  SDN controller as a centralized  process.

In the  MEC servers we can   maintain a database of available services  by using the  MEC coordinator. Next perform the connect the  MEC server with the SDN controller for perform the  application request transmission.  The end-user can send the request for a service by just mentioning the name of the service, based on service request the the MEC server is identified by  MEC coordinator to provides this service

By use the SDN controller we can host the ‘MEC coordinator northbound application to handle various scenarios:
  • The client application on the end device send the service request to monitor service instances running on the MEC servers  and find the available MEC server.
  • Based on the instance of a service , we can monitor the capacity and utilization of the MEC servers.
  • Allocate the service request to the less-loaded servers , when the multiple MEC servers running instances of the same service.
